A pre-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation is conducted by a service organization to assess the energy performance of the home. This comprehensive analysis identifies areas where energy efficiency can be improved and provides valuable recommendations.

Only retrofits recommended by the energy advisor and listed as eligible retrofits and installations under the grant program are eligible for the loan. We ensure homeowners receive accurate guidance on eligible retrofits to maximize the loan’s benefits.

Loan Application

Submitting an application for the Canada Greener Homes Loan is straightforward with our guidance. Here are the steps involved: Log in to your Canada Greener Homes account Visit the Canada Greener Homes portal and log in using your credentials. If you reside in Nova Scotia, Ontario, or Quebec, apply for the grant through your provincial co-delivery organization before accessing the loan portal. Access the loan portal Navigate to the loan portal section to submit your application for the Canada Greener Homes Loan. Gather required documentation You will need to provide various documents, including: Property tax statement Prepare a copy of your property tax statement to verify your ownership of the home. Government-issued identification Upload a scanned copy of your driver’s license or other government-issued ID, and a recent utility bill to confirm your address. Confirmation of income and employment Include documents that validate your income and employment, such as a job letter or a T4 slip.

Obtain quotes from contractors for the retrofits you plan to undertake. These quotes will help determine the loan amount. Submit your application Fill out the required fields in the loan portal and upload the necessary documentation.

Loan calculation and offer acceptance The program will calculate the maximum loan amount you are approved for based on your application. You will receive a loan offer, which you should thoroughly review. If satisfied with the terms and conditions, accept the loan agreement to activate the loan offer. Access upfront funds The Canada Greener Homes Loan provides the option to receive a portion of the loan upfront to cover costs like contractor deposits. You can request an advance by demonstrating the need for upfront payments. The advance is limited to 15% of the eligible retrofit costs, with a 25% limit for properties in the North or off-grid areas. Completion of retrofits and post-retrofit evaluation Once your loan is approved, proceed with the retrofit work. Upon completion, a post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation will verify the improvements made. Keep all receipts and invoices for documentation purposes.
